Harvest Party Fun!

Our Harvest party was filled with bubbling Witches Brew, Halloween Bingo, Mummy wrapping, snacks (including sprite with vampire blood-grenadine :)), and a photo booth! (Pictures from the photo booth will soon follow this post!)

Our first CELEBRITY OF THE WEEK!!!

We had our first "Celebrity of the Week" presentation yesterday! We talked about how the audience for the presentation is like being on a movie set, so we used the clapboard and everything to put this event into ACTION! Each week we will be honoring a new student and letting him or her SHINE! :) We loved learning all about our very own celebrity, Nolan, this week!

We are having a "GLOWING" year!!

The firsties filled our Warm Fuzzy jar again! I think the Halloween season had them thinking about glowsticks/flashlights, so they voted to have a "Glowstick/Flashlight Day" in Room 9. Who knew these small items could bring such joy and smiles to the kiddos?!?! We had such a blast! As you can see, we are truly having a "GLOWING" year in first grade! Thank you for all who sent in extra glow sticks and flash lights! They were super helpful! 

Learning all about blends!

During reading this week one of our phonics skills focus was learning about blends! (Words that begin with 2 or 3 consonants. For example, skip, splat, third, etc.) To help reinforce this concept, the first graders made word webs that had all different types of words with blends. We cut out words from magazines and they were able to write and illustrate words with blends as well. Enjoy the pictures from this fun activity! The first graders couldn't get enough of searching and "hunting" for blends!

Poppin' Pairs of 10 and Math Games!

We are currently working on recognizing pairs of ten in math class! The students have learned a variety of games to help them understand number order and the concept of different pairs of numbers equaling ten. On Friday, we were able to create a "Poppin' Pairs of 10" book that had the students put 2 groups of "gumballs" in a "gumball machine" that equaled 10. To make this activity even more fun, we chewed bubble gum and blew bubbles!  Here are a few pictures of the students playing the math games and creating their "Poppin' Pairs of 10" book. :)

Barten's Pumpkin Patch and Fire Station Visit

We had SUCH a great time today on our field trip!! The sun was shining and the first graders were so excited about our adventures! We learned even more about the pumpkin life cycle, how to cook pumpkins, how to care for apple trees, played games in the pumpkin area, and even went on a hay ride! After all the fun adventures and a picnic lunch at the pumpkin patch, we went to the fire station for Fire Prevention Week. The firsties LOVED being at the fire station and getting to go through many of the fire trucks. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! :) THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of our chaperones! Without you our field trip would not have been the same! We appreciate you!
